Kitchen and living area of the first completed apartment at Battersea Power Station
Battersea Power Station has unveiled its first completed apartment at the Grade II* listed landmark on the River Thames. The apartment marks the transformation of the Power Station into a new landmark destination in London.
The apartment is one of the 253 new homes being created in the building. It features original brick and steelwork facades which dates back to the 1930s, with floor to ceiling Crittal windows and art deco-inspired interiors. The apartment comes with state-of-the-art appliances and technology.
On display in the apartment is Heritage 33, a showcase of Power Station’s Art Deco-inspired bold textures and materials, from when they powered over a fifth of London’s electricity.
The apartment is s on the western side of the tower, on the second floor of Turbine Hall A. The lead designer for all the buildings is Michaelis Boyd, whose previous works include Soho House and The Groucho Club. Purchasers will have the privilege of selecting between two distinct colour palettes.
The apartment features bronze fixtures, and also dark herringbone flooring, inspired by the original Control Room A. The bathrooms also feature distinct blue tiling, in reference to the original tiles found in the Directors’ staircase.
Purchasers can alternatively select the Heritage 47 palette. Heritage 47 features fresh and contemporary aesthetics from the post-war period of the 1950s. It was during this phase that the second part of Battersea Power Station, including the second two of the four chimneys, was constructed.
The final touches were inspired by the building’s unique history and heritage, dressed by TH2, London-based interior design studio and part of the Taylor Howes studio.
Simon Murphy, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said, “On behalf of our Malaysian shareholders, unveiling the first completed apartment in the Power Station is a major milestone for the project and is evidence of the huge momentum that is building as we look forward to opening the Power Station in 2021.
“These homes are among the most magnificent properties in London. Many of them enjoy fantastic river views and all of the apartments benefit from having an array of shops, restaurants, cinemas and other amenities, including a six-acre park, on their doorstep. They will also be some of the best-connected homes in the capital, with the MBNA Thames Clippers River Bus now operational and a new Zone 1 London Underground Station opening in 2021.”
Aside from the apartment, Battersea Power Station will also include 500,000 sf of office space which is set to become Apple’s new London Campus. Another 40,000 sf is slated to house a co-working space operated by No.18, a cinema, and over 100 shops. A further 18,500 sf has been set aside for a food hall.
Work has also commenced on a glass elevator within the North West Chimney, coined the Chimney Lift Experience. Visitors will get to experience unparalleled panoramic views of London from a 150 metre high viewing platform.
The third phase of the project, the Electric Boulevard is also seeing progress. The Electric Boulevard comprises buildings by Gehry Partners and Battersea Roof Gardens, where the apartments are available to purchase off-plan with prices starting from £671,000.
The first phase of the project, Circus West Village, has been completed. It is home to a thriving community of over 1,000 residents, and a community of restaurants, bars and cafes as well as a cinema, hair and beauty salon, theatre and spin studio.
