About Tambun
Tambun, which was previously known as Kampung Rotan Segar is now a major town in Kinta District of Perak. It started off as a tin mining town where the majority of workers were aborigines (Orang Asli) from the settlements nearby. Before the introduction of Chinese labourers, the aborigines were the workers of choice for the tin mines within the area.
Tambun is notable for a kind of fruit produce - pomelos, this produce is very sought-after by locals and tourists alike. Many planters used to be of Hakka descendent from Southern China. The fruit was originally brought in along with Chinese travelers as a main source of Vitamin C during extended ship journeys. Then it was found that pomelos can flourish in Tambun-Ampang-Piah region's dark and ferrous soil conditions.
Other than the famous fruit, Tambun is also famous for its places of attractions. The very well-known Lost World of Tambun waterpark is located here, a very much favoured stop for locals and foreign tourists. Other attractions include Tambun Cave, Tokong Gua Dong Hua and many more.
The main road serving Tambun is Jalan Tambun, which is interconnected with the North-South Highway (PLUS). There are also other transportation methods to get to Tambun, in the form of busses, planes and KTM's Electric Train Service (ETS), a high-speed electric intercity train network that runs along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
