Bukit Bintang which is also known as Starhill or Bintang Walk is perhaps the most exclusive area of Kuala Lumpur offering retail outlets, exclusive condominiums, serviced residences, entertainment outlets, hotels and plenty of other amenities.

Accessible via several forms of public transportation, the residential areas of Bukit Bintang includes units of houses from the pre-war times along Tengkat Tong Shin. In high contrast to these ancient homes, some of the city’s most exclusive residential developments such as Pavilion Residences and the serviced residences of Berjaya Times Square boasts its modernity by being literally built on top of its accompanying shopping outlets with direct connection to these entertainment centres.

With history having to make way for the new world, there have been some notable controversial issues where the most talked about one was the relocation of the historical Bukit Bintang Girl’s School which was moved to Cheras make way for Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and was renamed to SMK Seri Bintang Utara.

As Bukit Bintang is located deep within the heart of Kuala Lumpur, this area faces constantly heavy traffic congestions which is further aggravated by the constructions of the upcoming MRT project which is scheduled to be begin its operations in 2016.

Consumer Price Index

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.363% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.633% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.308% in the year 2014 while surging by 3.019% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.1 in 2012, 105.8 in 2013, 109.3 in 2014, 112.6 in 2015.
