Rawang is a small town located technically within the district of Gombak, at least half an hour away from the city of Kuala Lumpur. Property here is generally on the more affordable side, hence many who work in the city choose to make their home here.

The majority of the people who live in Rawang are of the lower to middle income group, with a mix of Chinese and Malays. Development in this town has always been on the haphazard side, without the bearings of a well planned township atypical of a development solely built by a single developer.

Nevertheless, due to the property boom and lack of space in Kuala Lumpur, many aspiring developers have brought their projects here with some of the more enterprising developers building their homes close to the less travelled highways.

Property investors looking for long term investments have obtained units at these very developments, to target travelers and travel groups travelling to and fro the northern and southern end of Malaysia and need a rest stop overnight in between states.

Quite far from city center, traffic jam after working hours. But convenient, have Tesco, Aeon & Giant. Also easy to do my banking service. In terms of safety, should be improved.

Traffic is quite good here - even peak hours the jam is not so heavy as well. Staying here is also quite convenience as there are many retail lots and restaurants around. Also, the safety here is ok.

Consumer Price Index

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.644% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 2.093% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.448% in the year 2014 while surging by 2.523% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 105.1 in 2012, 107.3 in 2013, 111.0 in 2014, 113.8 in 2015.
