Kuala Selangor is a small coastal town located in Selangor, and is the capital of an administrative district of the same name. ‘Kuala’ means river-mouth in the Malay language, making this town an aptly named one as it is situated at the point where the Selangor River meets the sea.
Kuala Selangor began life as a small settlement inhabited by the Bugis people who sailed from Indonesia. Today, the town caters mostly to tourists or local travellers coming to the jetty to buy seafood or enjoy seafood delicacies. Kuala Selangor still maintains its traditional “kampung” atmosphere with many historical sites as a form of tourist attraction due to its historical background. Other tourist attractions in the town are the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, Firefly Park, fresh seafood, and eagle watching.
Development in Kuala Selangor is mostly limited to land being cleared and turned into agriculture forest and fields like paddy and oil palm.
The main means of transportation in and out of Kuala Selangor is cars, buses or taxis due to a lack of good road infrastructure. There were plans to construct an LRT train and station connecting Bestari Jaya, Puncak Alam, and Shah Alam but the plans had been discontinued since 2012. Residents and tourists alike only have the option of travelling to Kuala Selangor via terminal buses and taxis. These buses are located at the Terminal Bus Kuala Selangor.
